Introducing Samantha Hamilton, LMSW | Psychotherapist | She/Her/Hers

Samantha Hamilton, LMSW, is a compassionate and dedicated psychotherapist at Amira for Her. With a strong commitment to serving marginalized communities, Samantha holds a special place in her heart for the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly BIPOC members. She believes in the importance of providing culturally competent care and empowering individuals on their unique journeys.

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Samantha draws inspiration from her parents' impactful work. Her mother, a retired social worker in substance abuse programs, and her father, a researcher and project manager, instilled in her a deep sense of compassion and determination.

As a proud individual of Puerto Rican, Swedish, and Scottish heritage, Samantha values her connection to her Puerto Rican roots. She completed her undergraduate studies at Fordham University, earning a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology with a minor in Bioethics. Continuing her education, Samantha obtained her graduate degree from Columbia University's School of Social Work in 2022.

Throughout her career, Samantha has held various roles in esteemed organizations, including the East Harlem Scholars Academy and the New York Psychotherapy and Counseling Center. She has also gained valuable experience through internships at Project STAY/BeWell Health Promotions and various schools. Samantha has actively participated in mentoring programs, tutoring initiatives, and advocacy work.

Passionate about sexual and reproductive health justice, Samantha recognizes the intersections between mental health, maternal mortality rates among marginalized women, and sexual well-being. She is dedicated to promoting health equity, social justice, and community empowerment.

In her therapeutic practice, Samantha employs a person-centered approach, incorporating elements of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy. She has received specialized training in evidence-based modalities such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Clients describe Samantha as open, non-judgmental, and genuinely caring. She creates a safe and affirming space where clients can express their authentic selves. Samantha actively listens to their needs, empowering them to overcome challenges and achieve personal growth. Many clients express gratitude for the invaluable tools and resources she provides throughout their therapeutic journey.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Samantha is a passionate cat lover and a creative soul. Finding solace in painting, drawing, and dancing, she uses these outlets to channel restlessness and overwhelm.

Samantha Hamilton, LMSW, brings her expertise, cultural sensitivity, and genuine care to her work at Amira for Her. She is ready to support you on your path towards healing and personal growth.
