Kennysha "Kenny" Lyte, Psychotherapist

My name is Kennysha and I am a Brooklyn born native whose parents migrated to New York from the Caribbean in search of new opportunities. As a Black Latina woman and first generation graduate, I saw first hand the beauty of our culture as well as the limits imposed on us which is why I pursued social work. Being able to be an unbiased ear, to the limits and beauty subconsciously placed upon us culturally and socially, is a part of my purpose.

While pursuing my Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts from Suny Purchase in 2016 I concentrated my studies on Psychology to understand the connection between the mind body and soul. Psychology provided me a platform to better understand, and empathize throughout my career as a case manager, child protective specialist and care coordinator where I was trained to use a person centered approach. In 2019 I decided to fine tune my skills and obtain my Masters degree
in social work from the University of East London. Before graduating in 2021, I studied psychodynamic and systems theory approaches to provide care to others.

These approaches have shaped my clinical practice to provide a holistic approach towards healing and counseling. I firmly believe that therapy is a safe space to identify, assess and step into the truest version of ourselves, through empowering our voices and stories. I provide therapy for black and brown adults to amplify their voices as a key towards gaining more control of the narrative. In the past clients would say “Thank you for believing in me.” “No one has ever remembered that much about me” and “These sessions have helped me learn more about myself.”

Should you choose me as your therapist, I want to share one personal thing about me, since therapy is super personal anyways. I have a knack for exploring the roles of astrology and spiritually as tools towards healing and I think tarot cards are pretty cool too.
